Mark Butterworth – Director
In August 2018 alongside business partners Ben Dobson & Bettamix Concrete Ltd, Mark formed BDB Special Projects Ltd. As a director, Mark has hands-on involvement in all aspects of the business from estimating through to contract delivery with the ultimate aim being the long-term success and sustainable growth of BDB Special projects Ltd.
Mark has worked in the construction industry for 30+ years and has gained a wealth of experience in a variety of market sectors learning many traditional and modern building, civil engineering and structural repair techniques on an array of projects from maintenance works through to larger scale construction projects. For the past 24 years he has worked in the specialist environment of structural concrete repairs, surface coatings, cathodic protection, bridge expansion joints and waterproofing delivering complex projects for many clients. Mark’s career has seen him progress from apprenticeship to senior management with responsibilities for health and safety, planning and control of site works on multiple projects both locally and nationally.
When not at the helm, Mark enjoys spending time with family and friends and supporting his beloved Manchester City.
Ben Dobson – Director
Ben alongside business partners Mark Butterworth & Bettamix Concrete Ltd set up the business in August 2018. As a director, Ben is involved in all elements of the business from estimating through to contract delivery with the ultimate focus being the long-term success and growth of the new business.
Ben actively promotes the successful delivery of all projects undertaken by BDB Special Projects with emphasis on working to meet and exceed customer expectations in all areas by providing a first class, professional service based on trust and reliability whilst adhering to high standards of safety and quality.
Ben has over 25 years of experience in the construction and civil engineering industry. His interest in construction began whilst working in his father’s building and joinery business. On leaving school Ben joined a Main Contractor working in the construction sector, here he learnt the principles and functions of all departments, including estimating, commercial, project planning and site management. It is the latter which Ben pursued, first learning his trade as a Site Engineer, progressing to Site Manager followed by Contracts Manager. Ben has successfully carried out these roles working for both main contractors and sub-contractors. Through his time as a site engineer, Ben developed a keen eye for detail whilst maintaining sight of the bigger picture, a skill that he has transferred throughout his career.
On the rare occasions when Ben is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family and also coaches junior football at his local club, teaching 3 to 6-year olds.
Craig Hall – Commercial Manager
Craig has been integral in setting up BDB Special Projects alongside Ben and Mark since August 2018.
With almost 30 years of Quantity Surveying experience, Craig has worked for a variety of Main Contractors and Sub Contractors, gaining an invaluable appreciation of the merits and pitfalls associated with each tier of the industry.
Proficient, organised and methodical, Craig works hard to achieve deadlines and ensure that commercially, the projects are managed in a comprehensive, non-aggressive fashion with accounts substantiated at the earliest stage possible. He is also heavily involved in the Estimating and Business Development processes to help achieve long term success.
Away from work, Craig enjoys spending time with his family, hill walking, running and cycling.
Patrick Manuel – Contracts Manager
Patrick has been working for BDB Special Projects as their Contracts Manager since February 2019. After graduating with an MEng in Civil Engineering at Newcastle University in 2000 he has nearly 19 years’ experience in the Construction Industry.
Upon graduation, Patrick joined a Main Contractor working in the construction sector as a Site Engineer, progressing to Section Engineer, Sub-Agent, Site Agent, Project Manager followed by Contracts Manager. Patrick has successfully carried out these roles working for both main contractors and sub-contractors. He has been involved in most aspects of Civil Engineering works including RC works, roads and sewers, drainage, Section 278 works, general groundworks and external works and has also worked within the Nuclear Industry.
Patrick is hardworking, organised, resourceful, helpful and likeable with a professional, positive attitude and approach to all projects undertaken. A keen motivator who will always try to see the positive in people and doesn’t like to give up easily.
When not overseeing projects reaching a successful conclusion for all parties involved, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family, playing football – and fantasy football!! – and supporting Blackburn Rovers through thick and thin!
Zoe Davies – HR & Admin Manager
Zoe has been working for BDB Special projects as their HR & Admin Manager since September 2018. She has 15 years’ worth of experience in Human Resources in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, public relations and construction and is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace.
Zoe is passionate about helping businesses make the most of their resources and talent and find ways to improve processes and develop policies. She also has a keen interest in employee wellbeing and mental health within the workplace.
Alongside her HR career, Zoe likes to spend time with her family and loves to travel.
